Since the launch of CGTN Europe, one of the many stories that captured the public's imagination was the birth and then first public appearance of Berlin Zoo's star attractions, giant panda twins Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan.

13 MONTHS LATER

The cubs were the first to be born in Germany and have since become the zoo's star attractions. Berliners have taken them so much to heart, the cubs even have local nicknames - Pit and Paule. And though they may looks similar, their keeper says they have very different personalities, with Pit being laid back, while Paule gets stroppy.

With only an estimated 1,900 adult giant pandas left in the world, the zoo says this is proof of how vital conservation work remains and they are hopeful the cubs in Berlin won't be the last to join the global family.
